I contacted The Children’s Trust to ask if they were making a statement after Mia’s inquest concluded. This is what they sent through, dated 6 August 2024.
We were deeply saddened by the death of Mia Gauci Lamport in September 2023. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to Mia’s family. Mia was much loved by all the staff who cared for her and is sorely missed.
The coroner has concluded Natural Cause of Death and will be issuing a Prevention of Future Death report (also known as a Regulation 28 report).
We are awating the details of the coroner’s report in the coming weeks and will respond to it in a timely manner.
The findings of the coroner’s inquest are important in providing Mia’s family with answers. We recognise wholeheartedly that during this process there has been a prolonged period of uncertainty for Mia’s family.
Once received, we will be carefully considering the recommendations made by the coroner, together with our own independent investigations conducted since Mia’s sad death. We are determined to understand any lessons we can draw from Mia’s sad death. We are working together with all relevant authorities to enhance our delivery of high quality, safe and effective care and learning for the children in our care.
